Camping at Paynetown...............

on beautiful  and flooded Lake Monroe.  We found a few
early spring days that where perfect to test out a new camper that my son bought over the winter for his family to use on future camping trips. The pull behind camper looks perfect for his growing family to get out and enjoy the many state parks here in Indiana. He wanted to check all the systems on the camper since he bought it used and happy to report everything worked and he was very happy.  I took the Canyon Star ,but didn't de-winterize the unit and had no problems dry camping, I had 30 amp power and a fresh water source and shower house close to my site so it was very easy to survive (lol).

Paynetown is a large campground on the shores of Lake Monroe, at this time of year the lake is in flood stage and water covered the beaches and other parts of the lake, but the campground is high and dry. The DNR keeps this campground open all year with the only the electric on and a winter water supply available, The workers where getting the campground ready to open on April 1st so we got lucky and had water and hot showers for us to use a few days early. We talked to the park manager who told use that the campground is full most weekends from May to September  and holidays. The lake is a fishing and boating destination for all of Indiana and beyond. This and Harding Ridge are very nice campgrounds and should be considered when looking to get away for a few days.

It was very nice to get in an early season camping trip with the grandkids and we look forward to many camping trips in the future with them. They love to be out in nature and I'm sure they will be life long campers.
