White River

The White River is a two forked river that runs 362 miles thru Indiana. The river passes thru some of the largest cities in the state and in past years has been used as a dumping ground before environmental groups pushed for stricter laws and enforcement.  These efforts have made a huge improvement in the quality of water and life along the entire river. In southern Indiana the use of pesticides by farmers are the greatest source of pollution in the White River basin that covers about 12,000 sq. miles, it has been noted that 85% of run off water in Indiana flows to the White River basin that can cause very wide spread flooding in several counties along it's route before the river joins the Wabash River at the Indiana/Illinois border.

Our family has had a prences on the river that dates back to the 1960's. A local farmer rents out bottom ground along the river for people to use and enjoy the river, most of these river camps where used by fishermen or as weekend retreats. My Uncle Howdy rented from the farmer one of these spots and built a small cabin on the banks of the river, Howdy is gone but the cabin still stands and is now owned by my son Andy, we purchased the 1/2 acre lot from the farmer a few years back. The flooding over the years have sent many a cabin or river camp into the river, the force of moving water is so devastating and destructive , yet the old cabin remains standing.

We have used this spot on the river for family reunions, weekend getaways, parties and so many fun times I cant count them all.  We have a place to shoot tin cans, ride our atv's and enjoy nature that surrounds this little slice of heaven.
