O'Bannon Woods State Park
This is a state park inside a state forest with a older but nice campground close to the Ohio River. We camped here for 3 nights with the grandkids, this park has lots of thing to do and we all had fun.
Our site was shaded, fairly level and we pretty much had the section we where in all to ourselves. This is a older campground that has been , updated to 50 amp service and water is available close to most sites, the shower houses are older but clean and they have the hottest water of any shower I have ever taken in a campground.
They have a new pool with two slides and a very nice kiddy section that we enjoyed on a hot summer day. There are hiking trails for everyone no matter what your level of experience, the horse trails seemed very popular with the campers in the horse campground. We did a trail with a great view of the Ohio and the kids got to take part in a nature walk with one of the park ranger. Lots of wildlife could be seen at times. The nature center is very hands on and they have a nice working farm on the grounds.
We did some exploring outside the park to Corydon for food and visiting Indiana's first state capitol and a civil war battle site. Leavenworth has a nice old general store and the Overlook restaurant which offers great food with a breathtaking view of the Ohio River. Got to set up the new telescope and view a few stars before my batteries died. I think the scope will go on every trip from now on.
