Hardin Ridge Recreation Area..........

Clymene Moth

on beautiful Lake Monroe in the heart of the Hoosier National Forest.  This campground has a site to fit just about every camper, the only sites that are missing are full hook up sites.  Out of the 169 sites only 14 are 50 amp and only 14 sites have electric and water. Some tent sites are pack it in and pack it out and are primitive. No camp store but they do sell ice and firewood at the gate house.

We have stayed here a few times during the week and almost have the whole place to ourselves, but once the weekend comes it can get full of campers and boats.  We have a 50 amp site we like (132) its huge and no real close neighbors, most sites are gravel with a few paved sites.  The roads and in great shape for even the largest of RV's.  All the shower houses a fairly new and well maintained plus they have pit toilets scattered thru out the campground.  Staff is friendly and do a great job of keeping the campground groomed. Dump site was clean and easy to use. has 2 dump station side by side.

The beach is a roped off area with a nice sandy bottom, with a view of the main lake. One day we had the whole beach to ourselves. No pets or glass allowed on the beach. There are hiking trails that cover the entire campground and that end at the beach.  Ample parking with an overflow lot for beach goers.

Something new for us this time was that the National Forest has hired Cradle of Forestry in America Interpretive Association to manage the campground and beach.  They have raised the prices a little since our last visit, but still provide a great value for the camping public. I know we will return.
