Raccoon Lake..................

A weekend camping trip with our son and grandkids.  This state recreation area was built in 1960 for flood control of the Big Walnut Creek.  The lake is very popular with boaters, campers and from what we saw a great place to have a family reunion.  The campground has 285 sites with a large area for primitive camping and all sites where full.  Our camp spot was shaded and selcluded, we had no loud noise as we where on a dead end loop, but some areas of the campground was packed and noisie.

The grandkids are great campers and enjoy being on the go all the time, they bring their bikes and hike and swim with their parents. The park has a very nice archery range and let the kids shoot at targets, they where so proud that they where able to nail the targets with many arrows. I think swimming in the lake was a big hit as well.

We all love to eat and we plan out our menu in advance and use the blackstone grill to cook our food. This trip we had blueberry pancakes, campers stew, pulled pork and ham steaks.  The kids are good eaters and enjoy what ever we fix. We try to sneak them  "junk food" when the parents aren't watching.

School is starting soon, so these camping trips will be less for them as they have other actives to do on weekends, but we have some other state parks that we plan on checking out this summer as we have set a goal to camp in all the campgrounds in the state of Indiana that are run by the DNR.
