Road Trip....

We took a short day trip to Louisville, Ky on a beautiful fall day. We stopped at the Falls of the Ohio for a short stop, then onto the Louisville Slugger Plant for a tour and ended up at Charlestown State Park for a picnic lunch and a tour of the campground for a future stay.

The Louisville Slugger tour was very informative and well worth the stop to see how this company has impacted our national pastime.  Baseball would not be the game it is today without the improvements in bat manufacturing , I was surprised on how old school manufacturing and modern teck have combined to help give todays superstars bats that only the "old timers" could dream about.

The plant keeps over 6000 bats from former player's in their bat vault and can still reproduce the bats that the all time greats have used in the past. They have a movie you can watch and have a LEGO display of several major league stadiums, plus you get a small mini bat for taking the tour. In the gift shop you can have your own bat personalized.

The Falls of the Ohio and Charlestown State Park are both fairly new recreation areas for southern Indiana. The Falls have many hiking trails that follow the Ohio River and also gives you great views of downtown Louisville. Charlestown is on the Ohio river, the campground has many FHU sites and will be a nice park to ride bikes and hike.  We plan on camping there in the future as we want to start the Bourbon Trail in Louisville.
